Black Music Month Spotlight: Milira


Hollis, New York-born R&B/Soul Songstress Milira Jones was discovered in the late 80's when she won a singing contest at the Apollo Theater which led her to signing a contract with Motown Records.


In 1990, she released her self-titled debut album which peaked in the top 30 on the R&B Albums Chart.


A cover of Marvin Gaye's "Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology)" was released as the lead single and reached No. 21 on the R&B Singles chart.


"Go Outside in the Rain" peaked at No. 36 on the R&B Singles chart and served as the was follow-up single.


1992 saw the release of Milira's sophomore album Back Again!!!


"One Man Woman" we as released as the first single and charted to No. 45 on the R&B Singles chart.



"Three's a Crowd" followed as the final single.


Milira released a third album in the year 2000 titled Solution and followed it with a fourth album No Mo Pain in 2019.
