JChosen dubbed "The Chosen One" because the man’s vocals are so cold is a veteran singer, songwriter, and actor from Albany Georgia. He was a contestant on Season 12 of the NBC series, "The Voice" and was a member of Team Gwen. His blind audition of the Marvin Gaye song, "Sexual Healing" turned all four chairs from the judges. His voice left everyone speechless and it electrified the crowd. Alicia Keys told him "Marvin Gaye is clapping from heaven". His blind audition video had the most views of any contestant in Season 12 on "The Voice"'s YouTube page. It currently has 2.7 million views. Since competing on The Voice, JChosen has opened up for some amazing R&B artists including Hi-Five, Mya, Tank and Jagged Edge. He has also headlined his own shows as well as acted in 3 movies: “Ace”, “Pressure” and “Project Heat” with a cameo in the short film “Mad As Hell”.
Prior to performing and recording music, JChosen was a talented college basketball player at Appalachian State University with lofty NBA goals. As his basketball career excelled, it created a conflict between sports and music. Life would intervene and decide for JChosen. At the height of his collegiate career, he suffered a career-ending injury which ended his dreams of a spot in the NBA. This was a devastating period of time for JChosen. It was during this adversity that he picked up the mic and allowed music to heal him and reignite his passion for singing forever. He released two current singles "Dirty Diana" & "Novacane" that are available on all digital platforms.
TERRANCE: Tell us about your upbringing in Albany, GA and when you realized music was your calling.
JCHOSEN: Growing up in Albany, Georgia was a good experience. Taught me how to be aware and cautious of life. One day you're here and the next you could be gone. I knew music was my calling after I graduated college and when I signed up to perform in Charlotte, NC at my first open mic. I blew the roof off the place. That's when I fell in love with music.
TERRANCE: In three words describe your sound.
JCHOSEN: My sound is authentic, smoove and sexy.
TERRANCE: What was it like auditioning and competing on NBC's The Voice Season 12?
JCHOSEN: I really enjoyed The Voice. It was very exciting and mind blowing. I was super nervous but knew I wanted to prove to myself that I belonged on that stage.
TERRANCE: What major advice you took away from your time on the show?
JCHOSEN: What I took away from the show is to be more confident, consistent, know your limits and leave everything out on the stage with no regrets.
TERRANCE: You have two new singles out "Dirty Diana" and "Novacane". Talk about those and how they came together.
JCHOSEN: I wanted to come up with something that would make you think about sexy love and the addiction that love can have. A lot of times when I write music it comes from a real place and pieces of a fantasy.
TERRANCE: How did you hook up with Saint Jaimz for The Chosen One EP?
JCHOSEN: The Chosen One EP was a great creation and I had a wonderful time recording and creating the project.
TERRANCE: Can we expect any upcoming special events, appearances or performances?
JCHOSEN: We're currently working on upcoming events, appearances and performances for 2023.
TERRANCE: What would be your occupation if it wasn't music?
JCHOSEN: Paraprofessional in Special Education. Working to help and better our kids.
TERRANCE: With Christmas near, what are your ultimate go-to Christmas songs?
JCHOSEN: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Silent Night and Little Drummer Boy.
TERRANCE: What are you most looking forward to in 2023?
JCHOSEN: I'm looking forward to more music being released, more shows and getting the world familiar with "JChosen" music. JChosen will be a name that the world will know. S/o to Jodae Entertainment.
