Major congratulations are in order for South African singer-songwriter Tyla as her breakthrough single "Water" has been certified Platinum (1 million units sold) in the US by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Produced by British record producer Sammy Soso, the amapiano track serves as the lead single from Tyla's upcoming self-titled debut studio album available March 1, 2024 via Epic Records.
"Water" has reached number one in New Zealand and the top ten in Australia, Denmark, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, Sweden and United States, where Tyla became the youngest-ever South African and the first South African soloist in 55 years to enter the Billboard Hot 100, following Hugh Masekela's "Grazing in the Grass" in 1968.
The song is nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards which airs Sunday, February 4th on CBS at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and hosted by fellow South African native comedian, writer, actor Trevor Noah.
