Keith Sweat made an impressive debut with Make It Last Forever, a triple-platinum album about love and romance that showcased his smooth vocals and soulful melodies. A hit out of the gate, the lead single, “I Want Her,” went to #1 on the R&B chart, peaked at #5 on the Hot 100, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. (RIAA). The album produced three more Top 10 R&B hits: the title track, “Don’t Stop Your Love,” and “Something Just Ain’t Right.” In 1998, Make It Last Forever ranked at the top of Billboard’s year-end R&B chart, establishing Sweat as a trailblazer in contemporary R&B.
Eric Benét’s sophomore album, A Day In The Life, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. On the album’s first single, Benét is joined by guest vocalist Faith Evans for “Georgy Porgy,” a song the rock band Toto originally recorded in 1979. Benét’s version was popular in Europe and the U.S., where it was a hit on the R&B and pop charts. The album’s second single, “Spend My Life With You,” was an even bigger hit. Featuring singer Tamia, the song soared to the top of the Hot R&B chart, where it stayed for three straight weeks. The single was certified gold and nominated for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2000 Grammy Awards.
